Mountain Travel and Rescue Fundamentals
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to travel and work in reasonable comfort and safety in an
outdoor environment. It provides an introduction to search and rescue. Field practice includes basic practice in navigation,
travel, and survival, and an introduction to search and rescue.
This course counts as an elective for those pursuing the Senior credential. It is also a prerequisite for the Level II MTR
course to be held later in the season.
This course is not currently scheduled.
Mountain Travel and Rescue Level 1
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to travel and work in reasonable safety and comfort in the
outdoor environment, and to be an asset to a search and/or rescue team, including possible overnight operations. Field
practice includes practice in navigation, travel, survival, basic search and/or rescue exercises, and an overnight campout.
This course counts as an elective for those pursuing the Senior credential. It is also a prerequisite for the Level II MTR
course to be held later in the season.
The course fee includes the Mountain Travel and Rescue textbook from NSP. The course is not limited to current NSP members
and includes a certificate of completion and credential from the National Ski Patrol. Those interested in taking the class
or coming back as an instructor in training should contact Ken Marsh as soon as possible as books need to be ordered.

Mountain Travel and Rescue Level 2
The Mountain Travel and Rescue 2 course provides students with the knowledge and skills to
complete more difficult field operations and to assist in the coordination of search and /or rescue operations that may
extend over several days. Field practice includes advanced navigation skills, extended patient care, and advanced search and
rescue situations.
In addition to counting as an elective for those pursuing the Senior credential,
this course is explicitly required for Nordic Senior.
